Sutter County Jail

Good Behavior

Interview with Tom

JM: Did you get off early based on good behavior?
Tom: All jails and prison have some system of earning good behavior credits unless you are a lifer or serving a mandatory minimum like with the strike law. Myself I got about a year off of my sentence for good behavior credits earned.

JM: What is the most time off you can receive for good behavior?
Tom: In Sutter County it would be for every 2 days served you can get one day off. If you were to get a year in the county you can get out in as soon as 8 months. Sutter County also has a program where you are able to buy some days off of your sentence for certain types of offenses. I had never seen this before. Borders on bribery to me but.....

JM: What types of actions do you need to avoid in order to get time off?
Tom: No write ups and the ability to get along with all the cops. There is a write up waiting for you for almost anything you can think of so you would just have to be real careful in all that you do as well as get along with the cops. If the cops take a disliking to you there are gonna be really rough days ahead.
